Christmas Pretzel Matcha Bark Recipe

This Christmas pretzel chocolate bark recipe is a great easy homemade Christmas gift idea.

Granted, my Christmas pretzel matcha bark recipe is quite plain, but it's the best if you really want to enjoy the rich matcha and white chocolate flavours and the salty, savoury crunch of the pretzels without any other frills.

Of course, feel free to add colourful sprinkles or small chocolate sweets like M&Ms to the top if you like, too. But I like to keep mine simple.

This recipe was created out of laziness – I felt like making matcha chocolate-covered pretzels, but I couldn't be bothered to individually dip each snack, pretzel, by pretzel, in chocolate. This way's much faster.

As with most chocolate bark recipes, this one's pretty simple: melt and temper chocolate, spread it on a tray, sprinkle on your toppings. To temper the chocolate, I use my usual method for how to temper chocolate without a microwave or thermometer (which I'll also briefly describe the process of in this recipe).

Unlike most chocolate bark recipes, though, I'd recommend using a knife to cut around the pretzels to make shards though, rather than break it up roughly with your hands. The pretzels are fragile, and tend to shatter separately from the chocolate or pop off the top (as I discovered the hard way).

You can also watch me make this on my YouTube channel, Tashcakes:

Ready? Let's go.

Ingredients:

200g white chocolate
1 heaped tbsp matcha
Salted pretzels

Method:

1. To make the matcha chocolate, add about 1/2 of your white chocolate and the matcha to a heatproof bowl sitting over a pan of just-simmering water (make sure the bottom of the bowl isn't touching the water). Stir gently, and take off the heat when about halfway melted.

2. Continue to stir until the rest of the chocolate has melted, scraping down the sides of the bowl as you go, and gradually add the rest of the chocolate bit by bit, each time stirring until completely melted.

3. When the chocolate begins to become stiff and any new chocolate added won't melt any more, remove the unmelted chunks and return the bowl to the heat for just 5–10 seconds to loosen it up to make it easier to work with (not any longer or you'll bring it back out of temper).

4. Pour onto a baking foil-lined tray, spread a little to even out (but not thinly), and gently place the pretzels on top.

5. Pop in the fridge for about 10 minutes or until set, and break into rough shards before eating or packing away as gifts.

Enjoy, and have fun.
